Pride Flags
This started as my final for my Intro to Queer Studies class. We were told to create an art piece related to the LGBTQ+ community. I decided to make six pieces, each one symbolizing a different pride flag and identity in a fun and unique way.
I made all of the images the same dimension and pulled up the flag I wanted to use. Using color swatches from those flags, I created a fantastical scene. I decided that every person I depicted in the images would be a silhouette in order to represent that anyone could have that identity.
I believe that representing the LGBTQ+ community having a good time is just as important as showing them in pain as it shows how everyone in the community is just another person. It can feel like at times that the media forgets to show the good side of being queer. While showing the pain of being LGBTQ+ in an unaccepting environment is important, if we focus on the negatives so much we can lose why we cannot simply hide who we are. There is a joy in being true to yourself and we should see that too.
